Carl Munn has been around and worked with plants most of his life. Born in Denver Colorado where his father Alan worked as a high climber for Davy Tree Expert Company as well as working for Marshall’s Nursery, Alan moved the family to Oregon in 1961 after reading about the diversity of plant material that grew there. He later got a job at the City of Salem Parks Department as an arborist after the devastating Columbus Day Storm of 1963 where he retired 25 years later.
Carl worked in retail grocery through high school and after graduating he worked in retail management for 15 years. Carl and his father picked seed for J.D. Vertrees, developing a passion for Japanese Maples in 1975 they started Munn’s Nursery. Carl later purchased the nursery from his father and by 1988 the nursery had grown into a full time career. He moved the nursery to it’s current location Brooks Oregon in 1995.
Munn’s Nursery Inc. now ships trees to over 30 states, largely due to word of mouth, they have developed a reputation for having outstanding plant material at a fair price while providing great customer service. Carl has been blessed with finding several new varieties of maples, patenting one that bears his name A.S. Munn 001 PP #16718 ‘Moonrise’®
Carl became involved with antitranspirants after using them in the nursery and was instrumental in distributing similar products around the country for 17 years. After experiencing issues with the antitranspirants in the marketplace Carl set out to help develop a superior product for the industry that would eliminate problems experienced using other products. With the assistance of Dr. Les Fuchigami a leading researcher and Emeritus Professor, and Darrell Badertscher chemist and inventor, together they teamed up to develop Nature Shield™ the “Next Generation Protection” antitranspirant.
“I am honored to be a part of a product that is a benefit to the industry and plant lovers alike.” -Carl Munn
